History of Yoga: Yoga is very ancient, dating back over 3,000 years before Christ and their evolution to the present, we can distinguish several stages with particular characteristics for each.
Evolution of Yoga - Yoga has been divided for study into six categories:
Proto Yoga: Also known as Vedic Yoga or Yoga Archaic. These are elements of Yoga found in the four Vedas, Sanskrit texts, base system scriptures of Hinduism, some of which were written even before 3,000 BC
Pre-Classical Yoga: He is between 1,500 BC and 500 BC, when the practice of Yoga is a form of sacrificial mysticism, based on the internalization of the Brahmanic ritual. Was the development of a technology covered contemplative yoga proto concepts and practices based on Vedantic metaphysics of non-dualism.
Epic Yoga: This refers to the stage that goes from 500 BC to 200 A.D. It is a period when there was a proliferation of schools and doctrines, mostly non-dualistic, in some cases are considered as belonging to the previous stage.
Classical Yoga: Yoga is also called Yoga Darshana of Patanjali or because their doctrine was established around 200 AD Yogasutras by Patanjali. It grew out of a departure from the Vedantic non-dualist metaphysical basis and strict dualistic interpretation of reality.
Post-Classical Yoga: It lasted from 200 AD to 1900 AD and it was basically following the yogic teachings classical Yoga, which returned to non-dualistic teachings of Yoga Pre-Classic, but ignoring much of his non-dualistic philosophy, but used the eightfold path and their definitions. This stage corresponds to the scriptures of Tantra and Hatha Yoga.
Modern Yoga: This is the Integral Yoga and many Western schools of Hatha Yoga, which develop from 1900 AD
