United states history: Talking about the history of the U.S. is talking of the past 500 years, particularly since 1492, when Christopher Columbus discovered the New World. Since then there are several dates that have been etched into the hearts and minds of Americans, on July 4, 1776 is the most important one, is the day of U.S. independence from Britain.
Since Thomas Paine proposed the name of the United States of America in 1776 a lot has happened in this country, both before and after. On July 4 of that year saw the founding of this nation, the U.S., and she signed the 13 former British colonies and secessionists. In 1788 the U.S. Constitution was approved to be the oldest in the world today.
The first capital was U.S. federate New York, then followed Philadelphia. In 1791, with the capital in the latter city, signed the charter expressing the abolition of slavery. The northern states abolished slavery between 1780 and 1804, while the South continued with such exploitation. In 1800 the federal government moved the capital of the country to Washington DC.
In these early nineteenth century United States military began a period of civil war between the south and north, but before that first was with the Indians, who stripped them of their land during the early nineteenth century. Later he bought the state of Louisiana to the French. In 1812 there was the war against the British.
In 1846, after the Oregon Treaty between the United States and England reached the western U.S. control of the country after a conflict was against Mexico, and California took over, this derivative conflict gold fever and that this led to country, particularly the south.
In 1860 the picture that drew the United States was deeply divided, the name was just a premonition, but nothing was unity. There were states that allowed slavery, which had abolished before that date and those who punished.
Beginning in 1861, states that abolished slavery and its practitioners began to have conflicts of interest, that is where the figure still falls candidate Abraham Lincoln, who was prone to abolition. In 1860 he was elected president of the United States, which led to the secession of the slave states, 7 right now. Thus began the American Civil War, a conflict that lasted five years who defeated the slave. Lincoln was instrumental in the development of new amendments to the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing equality and completely abolished slavery, but the president could not enjoy this situation a long time since he was killed shortly after. Rutherford B. Hayes was the new U.S. president.
In the late nineteenth century industrialization and development brings the massive influx of immigrants to the United States, which favors industrial development, its acceleration, more labor, more production, but also saw a transformation in American culture. Irish, Italian, British, Africans came to this country ... bringing labor, but also new cultures, languages, food ... in the north, for example, began the expansion of cities.
But in the overseas territories also United States was growing, Hawaii was annexed in 1898, and that same year he removed to Spain Puerto Rico and the Philippines.
The U.S. involvement in the two world wars of the twentieth century was very important, more specifically in the second. During World War I, the U.S. adopted a neutral stance, regardless of the situation, but this position was not repeated in the second, when they sided with the allies.
Both the I and World War II Americans were allied to French and British, something that does not sit well in some quarters Americans. Another point to note is that between I and War II in the U.S. women's suffrage was passed, specifically in 1920. In 24 adopted Indian citizenship.
Also between the First and Second War took place in America the Crash of 29, a major crisis that increased the country's debt and brought a great depression. It's the time of the New Deal of President Roosevelt that relieved some of the delicate situation and was gradually recovering.
In 1939 the U.S. is neutral in World War II, but in 1941 joined the Allies, France, England ... against Germany and Italy, the so-called Axis of Evil, and Japan, which led to the U.S. entry in WWI after his attack on Pearl Harbour.
1945 is a historic year in the world, with the end of World War II, but also became a black year for U.S. history, with the launch in Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb, which caused millions of dead.
The second half of the twentieth century for the United States was full of controversy, intervention in third countries wars, cold war with Russia, interventionism in places like Cuba, Nicaragua, Panama, assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, Vietnam War, (the most painful defeat of the U.S. as a nation),
The XXI century began with another day that will not easily forget, the September 11, 2001, when a terrorist attack brought down the Twin Towers in New York, this event shocked the world and President George W. Bush began what he termed the "War on Terrorism", invading countries like Afghanistan and Iraq are disproportionately, dragging countries like Spain and England and plunging the United States into a major economic crisis.
