What was the First World War?

What was the First World War?: World War known as the Great War, they thought it would be the last of the wars, is a military conflict that started in 1914 and ends in 1918. It is the first modern war, that dubious honor goes to the American Civil War took place about fifty years before. In these great wars unfortunately ends not only military targets, and believe it or not we want to admit it, but in a "side" with civilians, indirectly on their lives and interests, and directly with their lives.

As additional data aimed to raise awareness of the damage caused by war, even whole villages no longer exist, we also use psychological warfare and sacrifice of vast amounts of resources (including humans) to obtain even a hill. The difference between this war and previous ones is that it was the first that affected almost the entire planet and involving various weapons totally new: the airplane, the modern submarine and chemical weapons.

Between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century the European nations began a game of military-political alliances and a large arms race. The theoretical purpose was to prevent a war if you have the most powerful weapons or if your allies it (Peace Army).

The population growth and expand geographically diverse failures trigger this war. The pretext for military action was murder: the heir to the Austrian throne Franz Ferdinand made a visit to Sarajevo and was killed along with his wife Sophie at the hands of a Serbian student. Austria ends declaring war on Serbia and alliances began to operate. On one side were the Central Powers: Austria-Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire.

On the other side were Russia, Serbia, France and England. At the end of the war Russia withdrew because he had his own political problems that lead to the Bolshevik Revolution and on the other side have joined the United States, Japan, Italy and other countries (mostly Commonwealth). In these years of war were used such sophisticated techniques as the counterintelligence (developed during the American Civil War) and the construction of cannon throwing projectiles at more than 100 km away (the big Bertha and Paris were the nicknames they gave such mills) and techniques as simple as digging trenches, which paralyzed to the point that war is dubbed as "trench warfare".

At the end of the war there were more than 10 million deaths and 8 million civilians and soldiers missing. There were winners and Italy that were as bad as the losers. France and England to Germany and Austria forced to sign an armistice totally humiliating, to pay exorbitant compensation and a number of conditions that could never meet. In the long run this would be the trigger for World War II.
