What was the First World War?: World War known as the Great War, they thought it would be the last of the wars, is a military conflict that started in 1914 and ends in 1918. It is the first modern war, that dubious honor goes to the American Civil War took place about fifty years before. At the end of the war there were more than 10 million deaths and 8 million civilians and soldiers missing. There were winners and Italy that were as bad as the losers. France and England to Germany and Austria forced to sign an armistice totally humiliating, to pay exorbitant compensation and a number of conditions that could never meet. In the long run this would be the trigger for World War II.
