is a company whose main product is the search engine of the same name.
Google was founded in September 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two Ph.D. students at Stanford.
Sergey Brin (23 years now) and Larry Page (24), cofounders of Google and currently chairman and CEO, is known at a ceremony organized by Stanford University for a Ph.D. candidate in computer science. Both had a common goal, to get relevant information from a large amount of data.
In 1995 Larry and Sergey start working in the "Digital Library Project" at the University of Stanford. Starting to create a search algorithm for data. This technology gives Larry name "PageRank" later became the "heart" that will run at Google.
In 1996 begin to develop a search engine called "BackRub". And as indicated in their description, BackRub is written in Java and Python and runs on several machines. The database is hosted on a Sun Ultra II computer with 28GB hard drive.
In 1997 BackRub becomes "Google" the name comes from a play on the word "googol", coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, to refer to the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. The use reflects the company's mission to the vast amount of information available on the web. And that same year Larry and Sergey register the domain "google.com".
In 1998 Larry and Sergey continued working to perfect the search technology. Although fever "dotcom" could not find investors who financed Google, having to get money from relatives and friends. Until the summer of that same year Andy Bechtolsheim (Sun Microsystems co-founder and vice president of Cisco Systems) will sign a check for $ 100,000 payable to "Google Inc.. Yet" Google Inc. "does not exist, and to collect the check needed to search premises and found a company with that name.
On December 7, 1998, Google Inc., already had offices in Menlo Park, California.
