All you need to know about the Chinese phones
This is a contribution that shows or reports on what is necessary and even ignored information about Chinese phones, learn about profits, advantages and disadvantages to owning a Chinese cell ...
Details:To understand all this phenomenon, we should go a little way in the minds of the Chinese (which I will not do, but I will comment in passing) ... In China it is common to what is called Shanzhai culture, it becomes a "taste" for imitations of anything: electronics, high-impact cultural events, artists such as singers and actors. Much of the population is poor and can not access the "original", then be content with something similar, something like what happens here in Chile with doubles of famous singers, people like them.
And if we go back a few years ago ... There was a company, CECT Corp. began manufacturing the 1st models of what we know as Chinese iPhone clones. The problem? That itself is copied from the specialty of the Chinese, and so began to appear CECT copies and copies of copies of these, and so on to infinity. If you see this, it is easy to see why his dubious quality: are rehashes of original copies of originals were never over, and did not have a proper software development. In China things have a relatively short life cycle, nothing is "updated" or better, is just something new and ready: The above product was forgotten. It is much cheaper.
Still, there are factories with admirable quality standards that make really great products. Unfortunately there are so many that the importer is difficult to distinguish and choose good. Usually buy a computer of these is a 50/50, or leaves bad input or last long without flaws ... is like the lottery. If it goes well it is difficult to present problems in the short term, unless (like every cell) was hit or use in bad shape.
What the hell is CECT? -----------------------
CECT is a large company in China, manufacturer of various electronic items, which is often attributed to "clones" as the P168, the M88 and others. But it is important to clarify that CECT not design, just the manufactured to order some unknown client, along with the 1st clone of the iPhone and a few models, nothing more. I will emphatically that: They are not associated with the manufacture of these teams now. In fact left the cell manufacturing business. But many online retailers still use that mark to be found more easily on search engines.
So who makes these items? At least for me, is not entirely clear ... I tend to think that can be ex-CECT workers who migrated to mount their own factories, with the knowledge gained. Others say the same maker of chips used is the one who builds and sells hardware, and then a third applies its own designs ... But it's just a guess.
Features ----------------------
Independent external design in general these teams share the same functions, implemented in one form or another. At the end is essentially the same hardware.
• Obviously, GSM phone functionality (quad or triband)• Player of acceptable quality MP3/WAV/AAC +• 174x122 video recording in 3GP and MP4 format• Video playback 3GP, 3GPP, MP4 and XviD• Camera CMOS, resolutions from VGA up to 3 Megapixel and more• Support for microSD up to 2GB or 8GB microSD-HC to• Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, AVRCP, sometimes PictBridge• Touch screen with handwriting recognition• FM Radio on all models, TV tuner in some• Depending on the model, can support Java or not
Note that sometimes these functions are not implemented in the best way, and can be relatively slow. Anyway the price / functionality is good and you get a pack of extras that other brands would cost more than double, which is without a computer factory released (or rather, never been locked) and can be used worldwide.
Come to the technical side: Hardware and Software --------------------------------------
Practically all of these things are based on MediaTek solutions Inc, the No. 1 provider of chipsets for these teams. Mainly due to the low cost and wide acceptance of its SDK (software development environment) is paid a single economic and license to manufacture the amount of equipment they please. No other company had been so kind to hardware manufacturers, and their prize was to get the captive market of Chinese clones: bill today billions of dollars a year.
The basebands (actually, chipset w / cell) used are the MT6225/26/27 series, its basic features are:
• triple Architecture: CPU ARM7EJ-S 32-bit + dual integrated multimedia DSPs• Typical speed 104MHz - Power saving modes and standby 52/26Mhz 32kHz• Native support for hardware acceleration MIDP 2.0 Java applets• Blocks via hardware decoding to JPEG / PNG, MPEG4• Includes LCD controller and CMOS sensor, USB-OTG, MP3/AAC + codec, other• External support for Bluetooth, IrDA, FM tuner, trackpad, geosensor (shake)
Currently there MT623x series, which adds support for multimedia chips slaves (as analog TV tuners, GPS, WiFi etc), and higher speeds, 156Mhz if I'm not mistaken. Technically speaking, are chips that although not too fast for the current standard, have many peripherals that make it very powerful. The problem is that software rarely uses this power well, classic example: Java support. Not all Chinese teams have it, however this processor supports Java applets SI smoothly but sometimes the manufacturer does not he wants to include it, to cut costs.
Now let's talk about Windows Mobile. Alone, with MTK chips is almost impossible to run the system smoothly, then how do? For easy, processor logic is replaced by some ARM compatible, which generally starts from 200Mhz, in some models up to 600MHz and beyond. The chip is then MTK charge only part of the telephone / audio and data processing. In Chinese with WinMob equipment, have been the following processors:
• Texas OMAP-850 is the most common models in the 200 ~ 400MHz• Samsung 2443C in some models up to 500Mhz - uncommon• Marvell Monahans @ 634 + Mhz in almost all models of "high end"
That by the hardware ... Returning to our Chinese clones without WinMob, now let's look at the computer software. 90% of the teams that go around on this side of the planet (ie Chile) correspond to sgte. Description:
• OS: MTK-OS, based on an RTOS called Nucleus OS μkernel• GUI developed by pixtel plutoMMI * - configurable to suit the designer• A lot of drivers and support documentation for external GPS chip, Bluetooth etc• SDK available for Windows, in a single payment of $ 15,000 for unlimited licenses
* Pixtel Media Technology (PMT) is a subsidiary of MediaTek curiously
The head of the internal workings of the phone is MTK-OS, also sometimes called Nucleus as it is a direct derivative. It is a robust and stable, used not only in phones but satellites and even entire factories. And "up" this is the MMI (man-machine interface) that has been all that we see: the menus, functions and images. MMI alone does absolutely nothing, its only function is to tell you what to do internal os, which is responsible for carrying out what we choose: to make a call, activate the radio etc.
In addition, MMI is almost 100% modifiable (something like the skin of Winamp), which is why there are so many varieties of computers apparently different menus and functions ... but inwardly they are all more or less equal. Which is not to say that the firmwares are interchangeable. But more of this later.
The remaining 10% corresponds to Hiphone series (the original, there are also eye clones of this clone) and some derivatives thereof, which are based on the sgte. software:
• ThreadX operating system, developed by Green Mountain• GUI based on the SDL, using hardware framebuffer• On the support of drivers and SDK, not much is known
ThreadX RTOS is unknown, but it is currently used. For example, all HP inkjet printers use it, and many digital cameras from Samsung and other brands. Even the OS is using the F-16 ... This solution is visually much more fluid, and in theory can better implement the functions in computer hardware (better MP3 player, camera faster etc). But in practice this does not happen: the firmware of computers by this system is bad, and makes good use of the capacity provided by the OS. It is also more difficult to work for the designer, so it has not been very successful ... for now.
Important points to consider ------------------------------------Eye with dual-SIM devices. The 1st generation of equipment brought as new dual SIM slots, however the hardware supported only one at a time (single-radio stage) and change between them every so often. It appeared later stage equipment with dual radio, supporting both SIM at a time and this is what the sellers advertised as Dual Standby. And last appeared MicroSD slots double double and Bluetooth chips and ...
This attractive but is a serious problem: these teams are not regulated by any entity that certifies electromagnetic radiation. As can easily exceed by far the maximum allowed SAR measures, and pose a health risk. Nobody wants to walk around with a pocket microwave, however vendors rarely (if ever) report this data.
If you do not have Java, not worth it - no exceptions. They can have many features like TV or GPS, but scalability are nothing more than a nice brick. Furthermore, the quality of the material is subject only talked, as far as possible you should always try before you buy, instinct is the best friend in this case. And an important issue is the quality of translation in the menus, many are really bad and become unpleasant to use so gross "Spanish" used (classic example: "Good" instead of "OK" or "OK"
If you want a computer with WiFi, which is whether or Windows Mobile, worth a little more but are vastly superior. Lately many computers come with integrated WiFi ... is what is called a real booby: do have WiFi, but come with the same OS MTK-always so navigation capability is extremely poor, at best can run Opera Mini (yes, the Java version) and receive mail but do not expect to see Flash animations or open complex pages, the system does not allow it.
Always inquire about the actual resolution of the camera. It is very common for a team and say 2.0MP sensor is actually 1.3Mpx, achieving the 2 with software interpolation. The quality of this technique is bad and very bad pictures are obtained, as opposed to a sensor that is truly of resolution that promises to be. This also depends on the processor used, eg. the MT6225 supports only VGA sensor, whereas the MT6227 and supports 1.3 and 2.0Mpx. Obviously more to replace a digital camera is a "toy" extra (like all phones) and can not be compared.
It is good practice to ask the type of CPU (and your speed if you have WinMobile), not all sellers know this information, others know it but they do not publicize. On phones with MTK-OS, the processor is directly related to the camera support: if a computer is advertised as MT6225 2.0Mpx chamber is a scam, eye. To WinMobile, 200Mhz are good for email and Web pages but they do not view videos, for this I recommend at least 400Mhz. Eye that sometimes a slow computer can be the same price as a faster ... always quote before buying.
Where is sure to get one of these phones? In online sales sites that sell Countless Chinese phones. More than the "score" or "reputation" of a salesperson, you better look at the comments you have left. In the case of physical stores is good to know if you have any web site or e-mail address if necessary ... and most importantly: the warranty period should be as widespread as possible, some vendors offer six months, others only 90 days since the last one must try to avoid them.
If I can see it before you buy as knowing how? There are thousands of videos on YouTube with reviews on these phones, just put "CECT phone" or "Chinese phone". If you do not see the model you are looking for, you can be guided watching a few videos, after a while it becomes obvious similarity between them. Forums also (as Powers) are good sources of information.
What is the relationship processor / camera in these items?• MT6225 -> Sensor res.max 640x480 (VGA, 0.3Mpx)• MT6226 -> Sensor res.max 640x480 (VGA, 0.3Mpx)• MT6226M -> 1.3 Mpixels sensor res.max• MT6227 -> 2.0 Mpixels sensor res.max• MT6228 / 9 -> 3.0 Mpixels sensor res.max• MT623x -> res.max sensor from 2.0 Mpixels up
I can add Java to my phone if it does not include factory?Short answer: For now, definitely not. It is much the risk of flash with a different firmware (albeit of a similar model and even just physically) ... the truth, if manufacturers could develop improved firmware as Nokia or Sony updater does, but with the Chinese no case. For this again recommend not buying a computer if you do not have Java.
What accessories are / should come in the box?At a minimum: Charger - USB Cable - Manual - Two (2) batteries - Stereo Handsfree
I can put YouTube videos on my phone Chinese?Of course. But first you have to convert them to 3GP format, which is what I recommend. The MP4 is fine but many files from PC are too "heavy" for the tiny processor of this equipment. Recommended: 320x240 resolution and AAC @ 64Kbps, are very good as well.
Is there any limitation for sending / receiving MMS?Where have I seen, when sending an MMS can be up to 300Kb, but the phone will not receive a MMS that exceed 100Kb (standard on all phones), refusing to rescue him.
How I can flash / upgrade firmware of my team?DO NOT EVEN THIS. You run the risk of leaving it unusable. There are pages devoted to collecting original firmwares, and there are communities that have begun to "gut" the firmware, with very good results: you can correct the bad translations, change icons, add features ... But do not get and a single mistake and RIP.
My cellular malfunction, not work, or have a software problem. It is common for these phones are off of nothing, or turn on and off at once, or to "hang" when using certain function. The only solution is to flash a firmware of a device exactly the same, both physically and hardware level. The easiest is achieved with an acquaintance, or directly ask who sold it if you have the firmware ... otherwise it is very difficult to repair.
I can extract the firmware of my team to have it in an emergency? It is recommended and can be done, the problem is you have to have a special cable very hard to get, like regular USB but different inside. Ignoring this, a team can get firmware problem and leave again (as long as the fault is not physical). For this there is a freeware tool created by the same MediaTek, called MTK Flash Tool Below I put a link to download ... I am not responsible for what everyone does with their phone, just give the necessary information.
Does the e-mail really in these devices?Yes, it works. You can set up multiple accounts, the problem is that most do not support SSL POP3 much less, making Gmail and several others left out. But can be configured to use IMAP, that way any account works in a Chinese phone, but without support for HTML obviously.
How is the audio quality when listening to MP3/AAC?Using good quality headphones, the audio from MTK chip is really good. All include 6-band equalizer with several presets factory and each band EQ chance to taste (depending on model). Usually the audio is not saturated and pleasing to the ear. But ... the headset included in the box is generally of poor quality, giving the impression that the cell has bad sound, which does not. In normal calls, the audio is loud and clear, no problem on this side.
I use a microSD 4, 8 or 16GB. ? I can do?Officially based computers MT622x chips do not support microSD-HC so your butt is 2Gb. The new phones with TV use MT623x (probably MT6235 / 7) and if they support HC, but only up to 8Gb. Anyway memory is sooooo ... The teams have advertised as dual 16Gb microSD slot (8GB x 2)
What is / should be the average length of the battery?Like any cell, depending on use. But usually is higher than the other marks, due to its ability - at least 1200mAh. Functions as listening to music or using the camera frequently use more energy, have personally tested with the function spends more energy: TV reception. The result? Nearly 17 hours straight with a 1550mAh battery ... for me, excellent. Within days, the average duration is 3-6 days between charges.
What is the actual speed of the USB connection?I recommend using an external card reader for the PC, if you are often going to transfer large amounts of data to / from the microSD. Average speeds are:MT622x -> USB 2.0 FS - 1 Mb / s read, 700 Kb / s writeMT623x -> USB 2.0 HS - 6 Mb / s read, 4MB / s write
